If adults could say things as quickly and
honestly as children what would the world be like?
A student sees me halfway in my doorway to my classroom.
He is last enough in line to turn
and say
“I am sorry that your baby died”
He knows to return to the line but is wise enough to hang onto my gaze
to hear my reaction, “so am I”
Today another student
asks me about my dog
She knows more about me than many because of her own loss of a sister.
“Your dog died didn’t he?
"I think about Violet” "I dream that she and my sister are best friends.”
I hope that is true, Violet has a friend, a dear dog, and a great grandmother all around her.
